Traveling in Australia
Entering Australia
To enter Australia, delegates will need the following documents:
- International travellers require a valid visa to enter Australia. Most short-term business and tourist visitors can apply for either an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA – subclass 601) or an eVisitor visa (subclass 651), depending on nationality.
- Delegates can apply for a visa through the Australian Government’s official website.

- Delegates who already hold a valid Australian visa do not need to re-apply, provided it remains valid for the duration of their stay.
- Delegates requiring a visa invitation letter (if requested during the application process) may contact the Event Team.
- All delegates are strongly encouraged to apply directly through the official Australian Government website rather than using third-party services, to avoid delays or incorrect information.
- Please ensure that your passport is valid for the duration of your stay in Australia (some nationalities may require validity beyond the travel period).

Currency
The currency used in Sydney is AUD (Australian Dollar).
Credit and debit cards are widely accepted throughout Australia, including taxis, restaurants, hotels, and retail outlets. Carrying cash is optional and generally only required for very small purchases.
Taxes
- Goods and Services Tax (GST): A 10% GST applies to most goods and services in Australia.
- Hotel Accommodation: GST is included in advertised accommodation rates.
Electricity/Voltage
Voltage: Australia operates on 230V, with a frequency of 50Hz.
Plug Type: Type I (three flat pins).
Tip: International delegates should bring a Type-I power adapter for their devices.
Smoking
Smoking is prohibited in all indoor public places, including restaurants, bars, hotels, public transport, and workplaces.
Smoking is also banned in many outdoor public areas, including near building entrances, public transport stops, and some outdoor dining areas.
Vaping and e-cigarettes are subject to strict regulation in Australia and are prohibited in many public spaces.
Age regulations
- Legal car rental age: Generally 21 (surcharges may apply for drivers under 25).
- Legal driving age: 18.
- Legal drinking age: 18.
- Legal age to purchase cigarettes and tobacco: 18.
- Valid photo identification is required for purchasing alcohol or tobacco.

Sydney operates on Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT) in February, which is UTC +11.
Climate
April is autumn in Sydney and generally offers mild, comfortable weather.
Temperatures typically range from 16°C to 23°C (61°F to 73°F), with cooler mornings and evenings.
Rain: April can experience occasional rainfall, though it is usually light to moderate and not disruptive.
Packing Tip: Bring light layers for variable temperatures, a light jacket or sweater for evenings, and an umbrella or rain jacket just in case.
Dress Code
The dress code for IPBA Sydney 2027 is business casual.
Alcohol
- The legal drinking age in New South Wales is 18.
- Alcohol may only be consumed in licensed venues or designated areas.
- Open containers of alcohol are generally not permitted in public places unless specifically allowed.Driving under the influence of alcohol is strictly enforced, with severe penalties.
