Welcome from the 2027 IPBA Host Committee
It is our pleasure to invite you to be a part of the 35th Annual Meeting and Conference of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA) to be held 7 to 10 April 2027. The IPBA Annual conference returns to the beautiful city of Sydney after 21 years!
The IPBA is an international association of lawyers with more than 1500 members who practice in business and commercial sectors and who have a strong interest in the Asia-Pacific region. The organisation has a long and proud history, having been established in 1991 in Tokyo. The Annual Meeting & Conference is the premier event on the IPBA’s calendar, and it attracts significant global interest, including attendees from over 65 legal jurisdictions throughout the world.
The 2027 Annual Conference returns to Sydney after 21 years, and the theme will be “Sustainable futures: The role of law in shaping a resilient future.” This recognises that sustainability is no longer a purely environmental concern. As societies face climate change, resource scarcity, technological disruption, and growing inequality, the law plays a crucial role in building systems that are resilient, adaptive, and just. The theme invites discussion on how lawmakers, courts, regulators, and legal practitioners can move beyond reactive approaches and instead shape proactive and positive legal solutions, encompassing climate and energy law, ESG, corporate responsibility and sustainable finance. We strongly believe that the legal profession can be a powerful a driver of change, where thoughtful, innovative, and ethical lawmaking will be key to creating a future that is environmentally sustainable, economically stable, and socially inclusive. Our unique conference programming and vibrant social and networking events are designed to address precisely these issues. In Sydney, members will have many opportunities to connect with one another and to explore and discuss developments of legal practice in a constantly changing business environment.
The annual conference will be held at the Sydney Hyatt Regency Hotel centrally located on the iconic Darling Harbour waterfront. Its state-of-the-art facilities, located just minutes from the Sydney CBD, will provide the perfect setting for our conference programs. From this easily accessible base of operations, we look forward to showcasing our wonderful city, an important gateway between Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. We also have several offsite events planned in some of Sydney’s most exciting locations to provide attendees with unforgettable experiences and networking opportunities.
There are many ways for you to participate in the Sydney conference beyond just attendance. The programming committees recruit legal experts from almost every conceivable practice area and legal jurisdiction to speak. Our strength lies in our ability to understand the cross-border implications of members’ practices, clients and cultures. Also, sponsorship opportunities abound, offering tremendous worldwide exposure for law firms, legal providers and corporations.
